When are the polls closing for the local elections in 2022, and how do you vote?.Eric and Donna Rekindle Their Love in ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’.All in all I would say this album is another good collection of Mac’s classic early style, and while not his best work, still demonstrates an important progression in his maturity and talent from what he showed on K. Music critic John Sargent described Blue Slide Park (in a brutal 1 out of 10 review) by saying “Miller’s world is a hermetic one, and unless it’s one you inhabit, the album holds no appeal.” I’m curious as to whether or not this opinion holds true, or if classics like “Party on Fifth Ave” are still enjoyable whether or not you have ever actually attended a party on its namesake street. However I wonder whether or not my enjoyment of this album is shared by people who grew up outside of this bubble of nostalgia. This album always brings back happy memories for me and reminds me of home, giving it a special place in my heart.

I grew just a few blocks away from Blue Slide Park, and spent many afternoons as a kid getting snacks at the Frick Park Market, a convenience store nearby the grade school Mac and I went to (shoutout St. While Blue Slide Park is not necessarily Mac’s best album, it is one of my personal favorites because it is very literally about the place in which I was raised. All of the four aforementioned songs show a progression in Mac’s lyricism and storying telling, and are emblematic in a way of how his musical style was beginning to transform. Other tracks on the album like “Diamonds and Gold” and “Man in the Hat” fall somewhere in between the low key and party vibes, and have made frequent appearances for me on late night aux road trip playlists. Songs like “Missed Calls” and “Under the Weather” begin to show Mac’s transition into subtler, more whimsically toned music, and are great ‘chill vibe’ songs in their own right. However, there are a few songs on the album that are a notable exception to this trend in his usual style. Songs like “Frick Park Market,” “Party on Fifth Ave.,” and “Smile Back” all share the classic high school party vibes that much of Mac’s early work is known for. S., reflecting the same positive vibes and free-spirited energy that defined the earlier album. Much of the track list of Blue Slide Park seems to retain the general themes that are heard on K. The album in general is an ode of sorts to the place in which Mac grew up, with nearly all of the songs on the album either being named after or mentioning prominent places from his childhood growing up in Pittsburgh. The album’s namesake and inspiration for the cover is a community park in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, well known in the area for its trademark giant blue slide.

Blue Slide Park was met with incredible success, selling over 100,000 copies and topping the Billboard 200 in its first week, the first independently distributed album to do so since 1995. By the end of 2011, Mac had been inducted into the XXL “Freshmen Class,” released a second mixtape (with the song “Donald Trump” charting on the Billboard Hot 100), and completed his first studio album, Blue Slide Park.
